Bengaluru, March 27 -- The Karnataka government defended its recently notified Menstrual Leave Policy before the Karnataka High Court, asserting that the policy mandating paid menstrual leave for women workers has scientific and objective justification.

The submissions were made earlier this week in the case of Karnataka Employers Association versus Government of Karnataka before a Bench of Justice Anant Ramanath Hegde.

Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty, representing the state, said the long-term health of women employees must be prioritised over the financial concerns cited by employers opposing the policy.
