Bengaluru, July 23 -- Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue Minister G Parameshwara on Thursday declared that the state government was fully geared up to tackle what it has described as the worst drought in nearly 150 years, asserting that there was no shortage of funds for relief operations as large parts of the state reel under acute rainfall deficit and crop losses.
Projecting the drought response as the government's top priority, Parameshwara said Rs one crore had been allocated to every MLA and Rs five crore to each district exclusively for ensuring drinking water supply, while an additional Rs 329 crore was readily available in PD accounts to meet emergency requirements.
