Bengaluru, May 25 -- Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar on Monday asserted that Tamil Nadu has "no right" to stop the proposed Mekedatu balancing reservoir project across the Cauvery river, reigniting the politically sensitive inter-state water dispute.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Shivakumar said the Karnataka government remains firm on implementing the project despite continued objections from Tamil Nadu.
"We have already prepared the Detailed Project Report (DPR), opened the Mekedatu project office, and identified land. A revised DPR is being submitted. Once the Central government grants approval, groundwork for the project will begin immediately," he said.
