Bengaluru, Sept. 3 -- He fought a war for the country, survived his injuries and waited for 26 years for what he says was his rightful due. But for a Kargil War veteran in Chikkaballapura, the long wait for two hectares of land ended in despair, as he allegedly attempted to commit suicide.
The retired soldier allegedly consumed pesticide on Wednesday, unable to bear the prolonged delay in the allotment of land he had been seeking since his military service. He was rushed to a hospital and is now undergoing treatment in Bengaluru.
His statement will be recorded once doctors declare him fit, police said.
The veteran joined the Indian Army in 1987 and served with the Maratha Light Infantry. He was injured during the 1999 Kargil War.
