Shillong, Aug. 6 -- The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Shillong, today began 
its Handloom Week celebrations dedicating to India's rich handloom heritage and the people who sustain it. 
 
Padma Shri awardee Dr. Rajani Kant, popularly known as the GI Man of India, brought invaluable insight into how traditional knowledge systems and crafts can be protected, promoted, and 
globalized through the GI framework.
 
Addressing students and faculty members of NIFT, Shillong on the theme of "Geographical Indications: From Local Craft to Global Identity", Kant shared his inspiring journey from his 
early days in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, to becoming a global voice for Intellectual Property
