Kakinada, Oct. 7 -- Environmental organisations and independent activists at a round-table meeting here on Wednesday demanded that industrial growth in the region be accompanied by zero-pollution norms and strict enforcement of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) safeguards.
The meeting, chaired by social activist Rambala Satish, welcomed sustainable industrial expansion and economic growth but stressed that development should not come at the cost of the region's biodiversity.
The participants expressed concern over increasing air, water and land pollution and called for all future industrial development to adhere strictly to sustainable and environment-friendly standards.
