Los Angeles, Aug. 17 -- The next "Pirates of the Caribbean" film could steer the franchise in a new direction, with Margot Robbie's character reportedly set to take the lead while Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow may return in a smaller role.
"We're talking with Johnny, we're working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done," producer Jerry Bruckheimer told DEADLINE.
The last Pirates of the Caribbean, 2017's Dead Men Tell No Tales, was the lowest-grossing in the franchise with USD 795.9M worldwide. Through five movies, the rich Disney live-action franchise has minted USD 4.5 billion at the global box office.
