New Delhi/Ranchi, June 29 -- Jharkhand on Monday urged the Centre to release around Rs 900 crore pending under the material component of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), saying the delay was affecting implementation of rural development projects in the state.

Raising the issue at the National Rural Development Conference here, Jharkhand Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Dipika Pandey Singh said the timely release of the pending amount was necessary to ensure uninterrupted execution of MGNREGA works and sustain rural employment.

The minister also sought an increase in the MGNREGA wage rate in Jharkhand to Rs 433 a day from the existing Rs 282, citing inflation and rising living costs. She sa...
