Dhanbad, May 27 -- Jharkhand's first "Garima Griha" for the transgender community has been set up in Dhanbad under the Centre's SMILE scheme to provide shelter, skill development and livelihood support to transgender persons.
The 25-bed facility has been established at Tetulmari and will provide accommodation, food, healthcare, counselling, legal assistance and skill development facilities to residents.
The shelter home will be operated by social organisation Manthan. Project manager Pankaj Kumar said the initiative aimed to help transgender persons lead a dignified life and connect them with employment opportunities after training.
