Ranchi, Sept. 1 -- Jharkhand witnessed the largest-ever Naxalite surrender in its history, when nine cadres of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), including its supremo Ravindra Yadav, gave up arms before the police in Latehar.

The surrender, seen as a crippling blow to the outfit, included the deposit of five AK-47 rifles,seven other firearms, and nearly 1,800 rounds of ammunition.

Officials described the development as a historic breakthrough in the state's long battle againstLeft-Wing Extremism.

"This is the biggest success so far. No such large-scale surrender with so many weapons has happened in Jharkhand's history," said Michael Raj S, IG (Operations).
