Ranchi, Oct. 25 -- Jharkhand's first state-level Silambam championship began in Ranchi on Sunday, bringing together around 200 players from different districts to promote the traditional martial art.

The participants competed in junior, youth and senior categories at the event, which provided a platform for players to demonstrate their skills and compete against others from across the state.

Silambam is a traditional weapon-based martial art originating in Tamil Nadu, with an emphasis on staff handling, balance, agility, speed and coordination.

The championship aims to introduce more children and young people in Jharkhand to the discipline and provide them with opportunities to develop their skills through competition.
