Bokaro, Jan. 27 -- The Jharkhand government has taken a firm stance to recover pending water charges from Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL), a unit of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), amounting to Rs 1,200 crore.
The dues relate to the commercial use of water from the Garga Dam.
Minister of Drinking Water & Sanitation Yogendra Prasad warned that strict action would be taken if BSL does not stop commercialising the water.
Speaking to the media at the Circuit House in Bokaro, the minister stated that since 1973, BSL has been using Garga Dam water for industrial purposes and selling it to Indian Railways for profit, which violates the state's water rights.
