Ranchi, June 25 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday criticised the Jharkhand government over the discontinuation of the local quota for students at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, and demanded immediate steps to restore the arrangement.
State BJP spokesperson Sandeep Verma alleged that the scrapping of the long-standing 50 per cent local quota for Jharkhand students would adversely affect around 650 aspirants seeking admission to the institute this year.
He claimed that with the withdrawal of the quota, students from Jharkhand would now have to compete on equal terms with candidates from across the country through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process, making admissions more difficult.
