Giridih, July 18 -- Jharkhand Police on Saturday arrested CPI (Maoist) Special Area Committee (SAC) member Ajay Mahato alias Mochu alias Tiger in a joint operation with the CoBRA force, describing it as a major success in the anti-Maoist campaign.
According to police, Mahato was one of the organisation's senior commanders and was wanted in 240 Maoist-related cases registered across eight districts of Jharkhand.
Police said the cases include murder, attacks on security forces, extortion, explosions, arms loot and other incidents of Maoist violence.
Police said Mahato allegedly played a key role in the Maoist network operating in the Parasnath and Giridih region and was among the most wanted Maoist leaders in the state.
