Ramgarh, June 22 -- : A portion of the Sirka opencast coal mine in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district was inundated after a large quantity of water suddenly entered the pit on Sunday evening, forcing the suspension of mining operations.
Project officials said preliminary findings indicated that mining activity may have breached a gallery of an old underground mine, allowing accumulated water to flow into the opencast mine.
Sirka Project Officer A.N. Singh said all workers were safely evacuated and machinery and vehicles engaged in production were shifted to secure locations as a precautionary measure.
He said no casualty or injury was reported in the incident.
