Ranchi, June 23 -- JMM founder and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren was posthumously conferred the Padma Bhushan on Tuesday, with his wife Roopi Soren receiving the award from President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

The award, India's third-highest civilian honour, was conferred in recognition of Soren's contribution to tribal welfare, social justice and the Jharkhand statehood movement.

Popularly known as "Guruji", Soren was among the principal architects of the movement for a separate Jharkhand and remained one of the state's most influential political leaders for decades. He served three terms as Chief Minister and represented Dumka multiple times in Parliament.
