Sahibganj, Sept. 7 -- The flood threat intensified in Sahibganj as the rising water level of the Ganga inundated several areas, disrupting normal life and forcing people in low-lying areas to move to safer places.
The electricity department suspended power supply in three panchayats of Sadar block as floodwater reached transformers.
Junior Engineer Neel Gagan said electricity supply had been stopped in Kisan Panchayat, Lalbathani North and Lalbathani South as a safety measure and would remain suspended until the floodwater receded.
The Ganga's water level was recorded at 28.32 metres on Monday morning and was expected to rise further to 28.58 metres by Tuesday morning, according to the forecast cited by officials.
