Giridih, Aug. 2 -- Residents of Giridih on Sunday formed a nearly five-km-long human chain to protest against a factory's proposed lifting of water from the Usri river through an intake well and pipeline, alleging it would threaten the river and the Usri waterfall.

People carrying banners reading "Save Usri, Save Waterfall" participated in the protest along with women, children, social activists and representatives of various political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, CPI(ML), Forward Bloc and Jharkhand Loktantrik Kranti Morcha (JKLM).
