Ranchi, June 22 -- Former MLA and AJSU founder Surya Singh Besra on Monday launched a book tracing the history of the Jharkhand statehood movement and made a series of political observations on developments and leaders associated with the movement.

The 222-page book, released at a function in Ranchi, chronicles the Jharkhand movement from the early twentieth century to the formation of the state on November 15, 2000.

Speaking on the occasion, Besra claimed that the movement suffered setbacks due to political compromises and leadership failures at different stages.

He also referred to several historical political episodes and personalities linked to the statehood struggle.
