Ranchi, June 29 -- Nearly 700 Class VIII students received free bicycles in Ranchi on Monday under the Jharkhand government's bicycle distribution scheme aimed at improving access to education and reducing school dropouts.

State welfare minister Chamra Linda distributed bicycles to 693 students from 10 schools at the TVS CM School of Excellence, Jagannathpur cluster point in Ranchi.

Addressing the programme, Linda said the state government was committed to ensuring access to quality education for every student.

He said arrangements were also being made to provide coaching for competitive examinations through reputed institutes, including Motion Education in Kota, to help students prepare for higher education.
