Patna, June 21 -- The Janata Dal (United) Sunday formally ratified the unopposed election of Nitish Kumar as its national president for a fourth term, while senior party leaders strongly indicated that Health Minister Nishant Kumar, son of Nitish Kumar, could play a larger role in the party's future leadership structure.

The decision was approved unanimously at the JD-U National Council meeting held at the party state headquarters in Patna. The Council also authorised Nitish Kumar to make necessary amendments to the party constitution whenever required.
