Srinagar, April 3 -- Several political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir today welcomed the magisterial inquiry ordered by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha into the killing of a man during an alleged encounter in Ganderbal district on April 1, expressing hope that the probe will ensure justice and accountability.
The alleged encounter resulted in the death of 28-year-old Rashid Ahmad Mughal, a resident of Chuntwaliwar Lar in Ganderbal. Army had claimed that a terrorist was killed in gunbattle at Arhama forest area of Ganderbal district in a joint operation with J&K Police.
After the family of slain raised questions over the encounter, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha ordered magisterial inquiry into encounter.
