Srinagar, May 20 -- Amid growing political outrage over the demolition drive targeting Gujjar and Bakarwal families in Jammu's Sidra area, the Omar Abdullah-led Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday constituted a fact-finding committee to inquire into alleged violations of the Forest Rights Act, 2006.
According to a government order issued by the Department of Tribal Affairs, the two-member committee has been tasked with examining the circumstances surrounding the demolition of houses belonging to tribal families and submitting its report within seven days.
The committee comprises Director Tribal Affairs J&K Mohammad Mumtaz Ali and Assistant Director, Directorate of Tribal Affairs, Muzamil Hassan Choudhary.
