Jammu, July 27 -- Hundreds of stranded vehicles being cleared as restoration work is in progress on Jammu-Srinagar national highway.

Fresh landslide and mudslide triggered due to heavy rains closed the strategic highway near in Ramban and Udhampur districts.

Officials here said that after a fresh landslide at Dewal in Udhampur on Jammu-Srinagar national highway, around 1700 trucks and numerous passenger vehicles stranded between Udhampur and Banihal are being cleared through the single carriage way while repairs to the bumpy road surface are underway.

"Priority is being given to passenger vehicles. However, no fresh vehicles from Jammu towards Srinagar, Doda, Ramban, Patnitop etc. or vice versa shall be allowed until the restoration work...
