Srinagar, March 18 -- The ruling National Conference on Wednesday expressed concern over the closure of the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar on key religious occasions, saying restrictions on congregational prayers and the continued curbs on Mirwaiz Umar Farooq hurt public sentiment and risk widening the trust deficit.

Authorities this week barred congregational prayers at Kashmir's grand mosque on the occasion of Jumat-ul-Vida - the last Friday of Ramazan - as well as the night-long Shab-e-Qadr prayers, marking the seventh consecutive year of such restrictions.

NC's Provincial President Kashmir Showkat Mir expressed profound concern over the closure of Jamia Masjid on the sacred occasions of Jumat-ul-Vida and Shab-e-Qadr.
