Jalna, Sept. 28 -- The Revenue Department has cancelled a revised order that had exempted Sanjay Nanasaheb Katare, a close associate of Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange, from a penalty of Rs 4.90 crore imposed in connection with alleged illegal sand excavation from the Godavari riverbed in Ambad taluka.
Ambad Sub-Divisional Officer Umakant Pardhi cancelled the revised order, restoring the original penalty order.
Consequently, the financial charge on land bearing Gat No. 265 will remain in force, officials said.
The case relates to purported illegal excavation of around 2,000 brass of sand from the Godavari riverbed at Asht Pimpalgaon and Domalgaon villages.
