New Delhi, Sept. 9 -- Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Narendra Modi government over alleged tax evasion involving 3,260 registered unrecognised political parties (RUPPs), demanding to know why those accused of wrongdoing had not faced penalties or criminal proceedings.

Ramesh alleged that more than Rs 10,000 crore in tax evasion had been brought to light in connection with these political parties, but questioned why the government had not taken action against the alleged offenders.
