Shimla, May 14 -- Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, alleging violation of the Model Code of Conduct during the ongoing municipal corporation election campaign in Mandi.
Addressing election meetings in various wards of Mandi, Jai Ram Thakur alleged that the Chief Minister had announced Rs 50 lakh each for councillors in return for electoral support, which he termed a serious violation of the election code.
He said such announcements during the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct were inappropriate and reflected what he described as "irresponsible and vindictive politics".
