Puri, July 13 -- The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has steadily modernised and improved the construction of the three iconic Rath Yatra chariots over the past two decades, introducing mechanical and technical innovations while preserving traditional craftsmanship.
One of the first major improvements was the introduction of mechanical sawing of timber at the government sawmill at Khapuria. Timber is cut to specific dimensions required for constructing the wheels of the three chariots, replacing the tedious and time-consuming practice of manual sawing by carpenters.
