Beirut, June 14 -- Israel carried out an airstrike on Beirut's southern suburbs today after Hezbollah launched drones into northern Israel, marking the first Israeli strike on the Lebanese capital's Dahiyeh district in a week.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz said the attack was a response to Hezbollah's drone fire.

"The IDF has just struck Hezbollah terror targets in the Dahiyeh district of Beirut, in response to Hezbollah's firing at Israeli territory," they said in a joint statement.

"Israel will not tolerate fire directed at its territory."Lebanon's National News Agency reported that at least three people were killed and 14 wounded in the strike.
