Kabul/Islamabad, March 25 -- Islamic clerics and scholars from both Pakistan and Afghanistan have jointly called for extending a temporary ceasefire to hostilities in both nations until the end of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, urging both sides to prioritise stability and dialogue.

In a statement issued on March 24, 22 prominent scholars said the initiative aimed to foster sustainable peace and ease tensions between Islamabad and Kabul.

As such, the clerics appealed to authorities in both Pakistan and Afghanistan to keep the halt in hostilities, arguing it would allow citizens to safely partake in festivities, and observe their annual religious duties, including preparations for Hajj.
