Tehran, July 30 -- Iran's IRGC on Thursday said it had turned back two oil tankers attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz with US support after one of them caught fire.
Issuing a statement on the matter, the theocratic guard said the incident occurred overnight when the vessels attempted to leave via what it described as the "unsafe southern route" through the strategic waterway.
"Last night, two oil tankers, encouraged by American aircraft, attempted to leave through the unsafe southern route of the Strait of Hormuz," the Guards said, adding "After a major fire broke out on one of them, both vessels quickly turned back."The IRGC did not identify the vessels or provide evidence for its account.
