Baghdad/Brussels, March 17 -- Kataib Hezbollah, an Iraqi militia, aligned to Tehran, on Tuesday, announced the death of a senior commander, Abu Ali al-Askari.
The development marks the second reported killing of a top leader of the group in recent days.
The militia earlier confirmed that another senior figure, Abu Ali al-Amiri, was killed in a strike that targeted one of its offices located in Baghdad.
The incidents come amid a rising cycle of hostilities between Iran-backed militias in Iraq and the United States, with both sides reporting exchanges of attacks in recent weeks. The Hezbollah group had earlier claimed a drone attack on a US air base outside Baghdad.
