Washington, March 27 -- A cybercrime group linked to Iran managed to force its way into FBI Director Kash Patel's personal email account, leaking thousands of documents and personal photos to publicise him as a 'successfully hacked victim'.

The hacker group Handala HackTeam took credit for the attack and along with images, also leaked his purported resume, reports CBS News.

An FBI spokesperson did not have an immediate comment.

The reported hacking came not long after the US Justice Department had seized four domains connected to the Handala group earlier this month, as part of its ongoing efforts to curb hacking, and digital silencing by cyber cells, allegedly linked to Iranian intelligence.
