Tehran, July 27 -- Iran has said that the status of the Strait of Hormuz remains unchanged as negotiations with Oman continue over arrangements to ensure the safe passage of commercial shipping through the strategic waterway.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghei on Sunday said discussions between Iranian and Omani officials had made progress, with the talks focused on managing maritime traffic through the strait, which is bordered by both countries.
The negotiations come after Tehran asserted that its interim understanding with the US allows Iran to oversee shipping through the Strait of Hormuz for the time being.
Iran has also objected to US efforts to promote an alternative shipping route that passes closer to Oman's coastline....
