New Delhi, May 24 -- The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India on Sunday strongly rejected remarks made by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in New Delhi, accusing Washington of attempting to "distort regional realities" and divert attention from what it described as the "destabilising actions of the United States and Israel."In a statement issued hours after Rubio suggested that progress had been made in negotiations with Tehran and reiterated that Iran must never possess a nuclear weapon, the Iranian Embassy defended its nuclear programme, criticised US sanctions, and blamed Washington and Israel for escalating tensions in the region and threatening maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
