Tehran, Aug. 10 -- Tehran said Iranians have shown "they are professional chess players" in an apparently mocking response to remarks issued by US President Donald Trump in which he compared his dealings with Iran akin to the strategic boardgame.

Trump on Sunday indicated he was prepared to mount further economic pressure on Iran, in a seeming step back from the increased military posturing his administration was doing, but instead resorting to economic warfare after Tehran issued its demands for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

"Lights out or lights on, Iranians showed they are professional chess players," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said.
