Tehran, Oct. 10 -- Iran has criticised US Secretary of State Marco Rubio over his remarks, accusing Washington of applying double standards by praising resistance in Western history while portraying Iran's defiance as a "death cult".
Senior Iranian officials, including an adviser to the country's supreme leader and Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, have challenged Rubio's remarks linking ancient Greek history with contemporary tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to Iran's supreme leader, said Rubio's speech contained a contradiction in its portrayal of resistance and national identity.
