Varanasi, May 24 -- Dr. Abdul Majid Hakim Elahi, representative of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Saturday said Iran has neither possessed nor intends to possess nuclear weapons, asserting that Tehran's stand against nuclear arms is rooted in a religious decree issued by the Supreme Leader.

Addressing a Taziati Jalsa and Majlis-e-Tahrim (mourning gathering) held at Dargah-e-Fatman and Imania Arabic College in Varanasi, Dr. Elahi said Ayatollah Khamenei had declared the possession of nuclear weapons as "forbidden" through a fatwa issued nearly three decades ago.
