Hubballi, June 20 -- A lunch outing between an interfaith couple allegedly turned into a vigilante attack in Hubballi after a group of self-styled activists reportedly abducted, assaulted and extorted a 22-year-old youth whom they suspected to be a Muslim, police said on Saturday.

The incident, which has reignited concerns over moral policing and vigilantism in Karnataka, occurred on Friday when Sharveen Jogul, a Christian resident of Hubballi, was having lunch with his Hindu girlfriend at a dhaba near Anchatageri on the city's outskirts.
