Shillong, June 2 -- The Meghalaya government on Tuesday said the introduction of the Integrated Excise Management System (IEMS) and rationalisation of retailer margins are aimed at strengthening transparency, revenue protection and regulatory oversight in the sector.

"Meghalaya's reforms are consistent with national trends across India, with several state governments increasingly modernising excise administration," Commissioner & Secretary Excise, Pravin Bakshi said.

He said the key objectives of the IEMS include prevention of illegal diversion and pilferage, curbing the circulation of counterfeit liquor, plugging revenue leakages, strengthening enforcement capabilities, ensuring proper stock accountability, and protecting consumers and l...
