Kanpur, Aug. 27 -- An instructor pilot and a trainee pilot were killed when a training aircraft crashed here on Thursday.

The accident occurred near the Ganga Barrage. The aircraft was approximately 100 feet above sea level when it veered off course. It lost balance, crashed into trees and then exploded with a loud bang, eyewitnesses said.

Police and administration teams immediately arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area. Police rushed the injured pilot, Sachin Bhatia from Gujarat, and trainee Abhishek Pujari from Karnataka, to the hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead.
