New Delhi, Feb. 3 -- The Indian Newspaper Society (INS), the organisation of the newspaper owners in the country, on Tuesday expressed concerns regarding the current shortage of domestic newsprint supply in the country.

The newspaper society cited that while the domestic consumption of the newsprint is approx 1.2 million tonnes, the domestic production struggled to cross the 0.5 million tonnes, which is only 40 per cent of the total demand.

In a media release issued by INS, Vivek Gupta its president said that there is a major "hollowing out" of the industry because of the acute newsprint shortage.
