New Delhi, July 27 -- The number of Indians declaring annual incomes of more than Rs 100 crore has reached a record high, according to data presented by the Centre in Parliament on Monday, reflecting a sharp rise in the country's ultra-high-income taxpayers over the past five years.
In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said 576 taxpayers reported gross total income exceeding Rs 100 crore in Assessment Year (AY) 2025-26, the first time the figure has crossed the 500 mark.
The count has steadily climbed from 142 in AY 2021-22 to 301 in AY 2022-23. Although it slipped to 284 in AY 2023-24, the number rebounded to 415 in AY 2024-25 before rising to 576 in the latest assessment year.
