New Delhi, June 7 -- Indian households continue to purchase cooking gas at prices significantly lower than those paid by households in neighbouring countries and far below those in advanced economies such as the United States, Australia, and Canada, the Ministry of Petroleum said on Sunday.
A beneficiary of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) pays an effective price of Rs 642 for a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder, while a general consumer in Delhi pays Rs 942, compared with the current supply cost of over Rs 1,600 per cylinder, the ministry said.
The ministry's statement comes at a time when the government has increased domestic LPG prices by Rs 29 per cylinder, marking the second hike in three months.
