Kolkata, Oct. 1 -- India is targeting a rise in tourism's contribution to its gross domestic product from around 6 per cent currently to 10 per cent by 2047, with an interim goal of 7 per cent by 2027, union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said on Thursday.

Addressing the Indian Chamber of Commerce's Hospitality and Tourism Summit 2026 at Taj Bengal here, Shekhawat called for a more investor-friendly policy framework, urging governments to function as facilitators and enablers rather than regulators to accelerate investment in the sector.
