New Delhi, June 27 -- India's Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector has emerged as a key driver of economic growth, contributing 31.1 per cent to the country's GDP, 35.4 per cent to manufacturing output and 48.58 per cent to exports, while employing over 38.9 crore people, according to the Ministry of MSME.

The ministry said registrations under the Udyam Registration Portal and Udyam Assist Platform have crossed 8.7 crore as of June 2026, strengthening access to formal credit, government schemes and market opportunities.

The government has also revised the MSME definition from April 1, 2025, allowing enterprises greater room for expansion while retaining policy support.
