Glasgow, July 31 -- India celebrated its finest-ever day in Commonwealth Games judo as Asmita Dey created history by winning the country's first gold medal in the sport, while Harsh Singh battled his way to a bronze, signalling a new era for Indian judo on the international stage.
The 22-year-old Asmita etched her name into the record books by becoming the first Indian judoka to stand atop the Commonwealth Games podium. She defeated Canada's Heidi Quach 2-1 by yuko in a tense Golden Score final of the women's 48kg event, delivering a landmark achievement for Indian judo.
