New Delhi, June 22 -- India's eight core infrastructure sectors contracted by 0.5 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) in May, slowing from the 1.8 per cent growth recorded in April, according to data released by the Commerce and Industry Ministry on Monday.
The growth in the Index of Eight Core Industries (ICI) was supported by higher production of steel, cement, and electricity, while coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, and fertilisers registered declines.
Steel production rose 5 per cent in May compared to the same month last year, while cement output increased 8.4 per cent and electricity generation grew 8.7 per cent.
