New Delhi, April 6 -- India's agriculture sector witnessed robust growth in the past years, contributing to economic resilience and safeguarding national food security.

According to government data, over the past five years, this sector has achieved an annual growth rate of around 4.4 per cent, which indicates its strength. It's a sector of prime economic significance with a supporting capacity of about 55 pc of the Indian population.

In FY 2024-25, India achieved the foodgrain output of 357.73 million metric tonnes (MMT), which is just about 25.43 million metric tonnes in the corresponding period last year. This increase of 7.7 pc is attributed to the high production of rice, wheat, maize, and coarse meals.
